Mikel Arteta may be preparing to add another winger to his squad in the upcoming January transfer window.

There is certainly an argument that Arsenal could use some extra strength in depth in the wide areas of their attack.

Raheem Sterling is clearly yet to earn Mikel Arteta’s full trust, as he has been granted just one Premier League start so far this season, and Leandro Trossard has been required to deputise for the injured Martin Odegaard in a more central role of late.

Meanwhile, whilst he can fill in on the flanks, Gabriel Jesus has been in awful form recently and has fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium.

These circumstances have heaped pressure on Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli to remain fit and firing on all cylinders. Unfortunately, the current international break has taken a toll on both of the attackers.

Saka returned to Arsenal having picked up a knock whilst on duty with England, whilst Martinelli is not training with Brazil as he is nursing a muscular issue.

Arsenal eyeing up Jamie Leweling

Arteta may now feel that it is a priority to boost his options in this part of the pitch in the winter market.

According to TBR Football, the Gunners have recently sent scouts to watch Stuttgart ace Jamie Leweling in action.

The Arsenal scouts were keeping tabs on the 23-year-old as he made his senior international debut for Germany on Monday, as he scored the winning goal to cap a dream maiden appearance for his country.

Who is Jamie Leweling?

The Arsenal talent-spotters will know that Leweling is naturally two-footed and can operate comfortably on either flank, as well as in a more central role, behind the striker, if required. This versatility would make him a particularly useful squad option for Arteta to be able to call upon.

The attacker has plenty of raw potential, and attributes that Arteta may feel that he can work with. However, he still has some way to go when it comes to providing consistent end product.

In 38 appearances for Stuttgart last season, across all competitions, Leweling contributed 4 goals and 7 assists. A respectable return, but far from elite.

It remains to be seen if the Gunners’ scouting mission will evolve into more concrete interest.
